Pembrokeshire's Assembly Members are backing plans to introduce charges for all plastic carrier bags used in Wales.
The Welsh Assembly's Sustainability Committee has suggested that a charge of between 10p and 20p is levied on all disposable plastic bags.
"On average, we each use 300 plastic bags every year for just 12 minutes to carry shopping from the store to our car or house," said Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies.
"When you add in the visual impact of discarded bags blowing around our towns and countryside then it really is obvious thatm something must be done to cut down on our reliance on them."
South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns also wholeheartedly supports the new plan.
"When they introduced charges for plastic bags in Ireland there was a 90 per cent drop in their use," she said.
"It takes only a short amount of time to get used to taking a reusable bag everywhere with you and once you are in the habit you realise how unnecessary all those plastic bags are.
"I highly commend the efforts of towns like Narberth where traders have got together and produced a fantastic reusable bag that not only cuts back on waste but also promotes the town."
