Mrs R. E. Lewis

Kilgetty

Ruby Elvina Lewis died at her home in Ash Park, Kilgetty, on October 5th. She was 80.

Originally from The Vineyard, Valley Road, Saundersfoot, she was educated at Greenhill Grammar School, and started work in the office at the Co-op in Kilgetty. She also worked in the office of Lloyd and Mathews, the ironmongers, Boots the Chemist and John Bedford the opticians, all in Tenby.

While working at the Co-op, she met and married her first husband Dennis Owen, who died seven years ago. Ruby married her second husband Vincent Lewis five years ago.

Ruby’s interests included her home and her extended family. She had been secretary of the Sardis Congregational Church for 19 years, and she had also been registrar at the church for 25 years. Ruby also had a love for cats.

The family left to mourn are: Vincent (husband); Jan and Dave (sister and brother-in-law); Molly (sister-in-law); Walter and Racheal (brother-in-law and partner); Elma and Mel (sister-in-law and brother-in-law); Nancy (sister-in-law); Doreen (aunt); Kevin and Angie, Andrew and Carol, David and Judy, Brian and Janet (nephews and wives); Eileen and Mandy (nieces); Rose and Stuart, Elizabeth and Tony (nieces and husbands); Martin (nephew); Kirsty, Sara, Laura, Holly, Joann, Victoria and Becky (great nieces) and many cousins too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Denis Perms (brother-in-law) and Lewis Griffiths (nephew) New Zealand.

The funeral service was a service of celebration held at Sardis Congregational Church and was officiated by Rev Hywel Brown and Rev Norman Gilbert. The organist was Elizabeth Treharne.

The bearers were Kevin Jones, Andrew Jones, Stuart Evans, Brian Slate, Daniel Treharne and Mike Worcester.

There were family flowers only with donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation to E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Miss E. M. Allen

Haverfordwest (formerly of Milford Haven)

The death occurred on September 28th at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home, Haverfordwest, of Edna Mary Allen. She was 100.

She had lived at the home for four years and previously lived in Charles Street, Milford Haven.

She was originally from Haverfordwest and was educated at Taskers High School and worked at Walker Evans Solicitors, the food office and Haverfordwest RDC, from where she retired.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Marilyn Sandom (niece); Carole and Tony Thomas (niece and husband); Dorothy and John Evans (niece and husband); Tim and Clair James (great nephews and wife) and David and Kaye James (great nephew and wife).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, followed by interment at the family grave at Uzmaston. Rev D. Wight officiated.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Ms S. L. Skone

Pembroke

Sandra Lorraine Skone died at her home in The Grove, Pembroke, on October 4th. She was 44.

She was originally from Pembroke and worked at the Riemead Coffee House on leaving catering college, then in Pembroke Castle, then for her aunt Pamela at the Lantern Grill, Lamphey. Sandra also enjoyed working at Paddles nightclub, in Pembroke.

Her main interests were her two sons, Michael and Paul. She had made many friends, and had a talent for mimicry. She was also a talented artist and had a good singing voice.

The family left to mourn are: Michael Edwards (son); Paul Edwards and Nicola (son and partner); Marian Smith (mother); Clifford Skone (father); Michael and Jill Skone (brother and sister-in-law); Kevin and Elaine Skone (brother and sister-in-law); Clive and Dania Skone (brother and sister-in-law in South Africa); Charis-Rose (granddaughter); Pamela (aunt); Pauline (aunt); Ben and Debbie (nephew and partner); Julian and Tracie (cousin and wife); Cheryl (cousin); Stephen and Claire (cousin); Margaret (cousin), and many friends and extended family, employers, neighbours, and her son’s friends.

Unable to attend were Michelle, Kathryn, Tabitha, Mark, David, Thomas, Sarah and Jack (nephews and nieces); Clive and Dania (brother and sister-in-law) and Jack, in South Africa.

The funeral service was held at St Michael’s Church, Pembroke, and was officiated by Rev Roger Jones. The bearers were Gordon, Victor, Les, Shan, Mattie and Terry (all friends from Paddles).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for Cancer research UK (local branch), to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs M. Eardley

St Florence (formerly of Broadmoor)

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on October 5th of Mavis Eardley of St Florence. She was 75, and formerly of Hanbury Lodge, Broadmoor.

Her interests included painting, pottery, swimming and gardening. Mavis was previously a swimming instructor for Tenby Dolphins and Loveston School.

She was predeceased by her husband Roy Eardley. They were well travelled globally as Roy was in the RAF.

They moved to Pembrokeshire in 1987.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Alan and Ann ((son and daughter-in-law); Martin and Gemma (grandchildren); Helen Carswell and Brian (daughter and son-in-law); Emma, Samantha, Natasha (grandchildren); David and Christine (son and daughter-in-law) and family; Chris and Jill (son and daughter-in-law) and family.

The service was held at Zoar Chapel funeral home, Llanteg.

Mrs J. Macaulay

Saundersfoot

The funeral took place on October 17th of Joan Macaulay (nee Hilling) of Saundersfoot, who died on October 9th at her home. She was 84.

She was a native of Saundersfoot and was predeceased by her husband, Dr H. T. Macaulay.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: John and Simon Macaulay (sons); Francesca and Luci Macaulay (daughters-in-law); Mr and Mrs Whitney John (brother-in-law and sister); Mr and Mrs Lewis Hilling (brother and sister-in-law); Mr and Mrs Duncan Hilling (brother and sister-in-law); Mr and Mrs Brian Hilling (brother and sister-in-law) and Sophie, Alexander, Christopher, William, Emily, Calum Macaulay (grandchildren).

The funeral was held at St Bride’s Catholic Church, Saundersfoot, followed by interment at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Fr Owen McGreal and Rev Anthony Gregory.

There were family flowers only with donations if desired for the Paul Sartori Foundation, to E. C. Thomas and Son, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr S. P. Scourfield

Pembroke

The death occurred on October 11th at Withybush Hospital of Steven Paul Scourfield. He died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness, aged 50.

Steve was one of nine children, his parents were Fred and Iris Scourfield (deceased). He was brought up in Pembroke, but went to live in Gosport for a short while.

On his return, he worked for local firms at Chevron.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 22 years, Glynis; Rebecca and Ed (daughter and partner); Daniel and Rachel (son and partner); Tim, Emma and family, David and Joyce (brother and sister-in-law); Gordon and Pat (brother and sister-in-law); Derek and Julie (brother and sister-in-law); Brian and Susan (brother and sister-in-law); Susan and Geoff (sister and brother-in-law); Sandra and John (sister and partner); Philip and Susan (brother and sister-in-law); Adrian and Caroline (brother and sister-in-law); Muriel and Stan (mother-in-law and father-in-law). plus many nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles, relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The funeral took place at Monkton Priory Church, with interment at Carew churchyard.

The service was officiated by Rev Martin Cox and the bearers were David, Derek, Brian and Phil (brothers), Mark (nephew) and Dai Murrey (best friend).

There were family flowers only with donations for ward ten Withybush Hospital and the Bucketful of Hope Appeal to John Roberts and Sons, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs W. M. Sturley

Hakin

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest of Winifred Martha Sturley, of Waterloo Square, Hakin, Milford Haven on October 15th. She was 92.

Originally from St Ishmaels, she was a housewife and also worked in the post office in St Ishmaels.

She enjoyed walking, especially when her grandchildren were in pushchairs or prams.

When living in St Ishmaels she attended church there and when she lived in Hakin she attended St Mary’s Church, Wellington Road.

She was predeceased by her husband James Wilfred Sturley.

The family left to mourn are: Rosalind M. Welham, Jeffrey Welham (daughter and son-in-law); Nigel and Shirin, Justin and Stuart (grandsons); Sheona and Colin (granddaughter and husband); Jenny White, Matthew and Keiko, Edna Fowler, Mandy, Alan and Katy Dennison, Bronwen and Frank Agget, John Bowen and Alma and family, George and Jean Bowen and family, Marguerite and Michael Young and family (cousins); Diane and Michael Lewis (niece) Keiran (great grandson).

The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Hakin, followed by Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Rev Alan Chadwick. The bearers were Nigel Welham, Justin Welham, Stuart Welham and Colin Homer.

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu to St Mary’s Church, Wellington Road, Hakin, to Barclays Bank, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs M. Vaughan

Fishguard

The death occurred on October 17th of Melville Vaughan of Cwm Gwaun, Fishguard, who died after a long stay at Withybush Hospital. She was 87.

Originally from Cwm Gwaun, a mother of eight, she spent a lifetime in farming with her late husband, Dewi Vaughan. For 60 years they farmed at Llanerch, Cwm Gwaun, using horses in the early years. She maintained an interest in rural affairs throughout her life.

Her family was always a priority and she took a keen interest in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also a keen gardener, growing all her own fruit and vegetables as well as ornamental gardening. Poultry breeding was another passion. She was a faithful member of Jabez Baptist Chapel, Cwm Gwaun, and was also interested in all matters religious.

She was predeceased by her husband Dewi Vaughan in 2001, after being married for almost 62 years.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Cledwyn and Dilwyn (sons); Olive, Joyce, Gwennie, Phyllis, Sally and the late Eirian (daughters); Joyce and Suzanne (daughters-in-law); Desmond, Wyn, Dewi and Robert (sons-in-law); 27 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; Brenda Llewellyn (sister-in-law); Patsy Hewitt (cousin) Beryl and Ken Netherton (daughter and son-in-law) and other family members too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Beryl Lloyd (sister-in-law) and James and Dilys Phillips.

The private service was held at Llanerch and a public service was held at Jabez Chapel and was officiated by Rev Alwyn Daniels, assisted by Carl Williams and John Roberts.

The bearers were Robert, Richard and Adrian Vaughan, Emyr Evans, Andrew Morgan and Ioan James (grandsons).

A very large gathering showed the very high esteem in which Mrs Vaughan was held.

Mrs N. Lloyd and Mr N. Taylor

Bournemouth(formerly of Haverfordwest)

The deaths occurred of Nanchar Lloyd age 84 and of Norman Taylor aged 86 on September 29th and 30th respectively. The pair died in their sleep at their home in Bournemouth.

Nanchar was born in Haverfordwest,the daughter of Mr W. G. Lloyd (butcher).

Nanchar was principal boy in a few local pantomimes as a young girl, before that she was a pupil at Tasker High School for Girls.

Later in life she worked on the counter of Haverfordwest’s main post office.

Her mother was the first woman councillor of Haverfordwest, and also founder member and first centre organiser of the WRVS. Her sister is Mrs Currie, of Keyston.

Nanchar met Norman during the war. Norman flew from RAF Withybush where they first met. They were nursed by her daughter Marie Louise until the end.

The funeral took place in Bournemouth on October 10th.
