A lip smacking way to raise money for charity takes place in Fishguard tomorrow (Saturday) as Fishguard and District Round Table hold a charity Cawl Crawl.

Pubs, cafes and restaurants in Fishguard and the surrounding area will open their doors to establish who can create the best Welsh cawl from locally sourced produce.

Locals and tourists will follow a Cawl Crawl, judging the best dish by completing a scorecard.

Judging cards will be available at each venue on the day, and a sample of cawl with bread and cheese, will be offered by premises taking part in the challenge.

A Round Table spokesman said: “The Round Table is delighted to host this event and support local business, and we are appealing to all to come out and take part in this new event.”

The event is the first of its kind in the area, and will take place from 11am to 5pm.

The £3 entry fee entitles people to one sample of cawl at each establishment (£1.50 for children under the age of 12, accompanied by an adult).

The money will be donated to local charities by the Round Table.

A trophy will be awarded to the establishment with the highest score given by members of the public, during a presentation at the Pendre Inn at 8pm.

The following venues will be taking part: Pendre Inn, Abergwaun Hotel, Corner Cafe, Farmers Arms, Peter's Fruit and Veg, Gwaun Valley Meat Butchers, Cafe Celf, Cresswells, Ocean Lab, The Gate Inn, The Ship (Lower Town), Glendower Hotel, Fishguard Rugby Club, Orange Tree Cafe, West Side Diner, The Ship and Anchor, Fishguard Arms, Bennett's Navy Tavern, Rose and Crown Inn, Hope and Anchor Inn, Royal Oak, Fishguard Chip Shop, Parrog Cafe and Jane’s Cafe.
