Dear Editor —

I read that the town clerk of Pembroke Dock is asking for advice on various cleanliness issues in preparation of the bi-centenary celebrations (Western Telegraph, September 24th).

Looking at the state of the town, there obviously is not already a policy in hand.

The floral displays have been beautiful, but while looking up at them, instead of down at the pavement, people are likely to step in dog fouling or fall over because of the state of the pavements.

Albion Square is a prime example, where litter is picked up but the pavements are never swept.

The gutters are inaccessible due to cars parked nose to tail in many streets, so the rubbish in those gutters only moves when rain washes it away or the wind blows it around.

How many of our town councillors will set an example and get out their dustpans and brushes, not just for 2014 but for the present day?
