Dear Editor — When I read about disabled fisherman David Thomas (Western Telegraph, October 1st) it occurred to me that it needed a lot of courage to get back to fishing like that.
I admire both David and Margaret Mathias for what they are doing.
I am a 90-year-old Second World War disabled veteran and have been fishing since the war with a lot of help from some very good friends.
Unfortunately last year I was rushed into hospital and had an operation. When I was released from hospital my wife was in a nursing home, so now I live on my own.
I thought I would have plenty of time for fishing, but I couldn’t do it, seeming to lack the courage to face it.
But after seeing that picture of David Thomas I’m sure some of his courage has rubbed off onto me. Congratulations Dave.
