Dear Editor — I welcomed the move by AMs Paul Davies and Angela Burns to drive forward the dualling of the A40, but was appalled to read Gordon James’ letter (October 8th).
Pembrokeshire has the only two international ferry ports in Great Britain that do not have a motorway or dual carriageway within a few miles. There is also Milford Haven, one of the busiest ports in the UK.
On most parts of the A40 between Fishguard and St Clears, it is impossible to overtake safely.
Gordon James seems to think improved roads will generate more traffic. He should be more concerned that Pembrokeshire residents have swift access by ambulance to A and E services, or that a fire appliance can reach their homes quickly.
