Pressure should be exerted on Welsh Water to upgrade sewage infrastructure and treatment plants, whose shortcomings are delaying housing developments and affecting Blue Flag beach status say councillors.
The urgency of the situation is stressed in two notices of motion by Councillors Wyn Evans of Narberth and Tony Brinsden of Amroth, which will be tabled at today's meeting of Pembrokeshire County Council.
Cllr Evans says Welsh Water has failed to make good its promises and assurances to upgrade systems across the county while Cllr Brinsden says maximum pressure must be exerted to ensure that the county is no longer "serviced like a third world country."
Their notices of motion were previously referred to Cabinet which has recommended "in-depth consideration" by the Environment Overview and Scrutiny committee, including the calling-in of evidence from senior representatives of Welsh Water.
