A Pembroke man was found to be in possession of total of 276 grammes of cannabis resin when he approached two plain clothes policemen on mobile patrol in the town's Devon Drive.
Michael John Edwards of Cheriton House caravan, Golden Hill, Lower Row, Pembroke, went up to the policemen who were chatting with three other men sat on a wall outside a property in Devon Drive.
When he realised he was in the presence of police officers Edwards became nervous and tried to run away.
As the officers restrained him 25.8grammes of cannabis resin fell from his pocket. A further search revealed a nine ounce bar of cannabis resin in Edwards' pocket and a glass jar with 7.7 grammes about his person.
When police searched his caravan they found 1.5 grammes of cannabis. The drugs in Edwards' possession had a total street value of £803 magistrates at Haverfordwest heard today (Tuesday).
Edwards, aged 22, admitted that he intended to hand the nine ounce bar over to a third party and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply.
He said that the rest of the cannabis was for his own personal use and entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession.
Alun Morgan, defending Edwards, said that his client had been introduced to illegal substances at the age of 12 or 13 and had successfully overcome a heroin addiction about three years ago.
He did, however, continue to misuse cannabis and had run up a debt. He had agreed to supply nine ounces of cannabis resin to settle a debt and now recognised that he had been "extremely foolish".
"Supplying drugs is not tolerated here or in the community at large," magistrates told Edwards.
They said he was likely to face a high level community penalty with supervision and possible drug rehabilitation orders.
They adjourned sentencing until November 13th for the production of a pre sentencing report by the probation service.
Edwards was released on bail on the condition that he cooperated fully with the probation service.
