The company aiming to develop Milford Haven’s first wind farm has officially opened a Pembrokeshire office as its consultation programme gets under way.
Infinergy Ltd, a subsidiary of Dutch renewable energy com-pany KDE, was welcomed to their new offices in Pembroke Dock’s Technium building by local politicians and the Dutch ambassador to the UK, Pim Waldeck.
Speaking in the Pembrokeshire County Council-managed Technium centre, Mr Waldeck said he was delighted to see the renewal of a relationship between Wales and Holland so close to Milford Haven, where many Dutch mariners had been based during the Second World War.
Infinergy plans to build a four-turbine, 10mw wind farm on Wear Point, between Neyland and Milford Haven on the north banks of the Cleddau.
NIK Energy Ltd, another KDE-owned company with close links to Infinergy, is already active in Pembrokeshire and has planning permission to build three turbines in Steynton and one in Hubberston early next year.
Infinergy’s senior project manager, Lorraine Dallmeier, told the Western Telegraph that more than 7,000 homes could potentially be powered by the two sets of new turbines and that the majority of the clean energy would be distributed locally. “We are really pleased to be able to officially become part of the Milford Haven economy,” she added.
“Milford Haven is the energy hub of the UK. We really need to bring renewable, green energy into the mix.”
Infinergy Ltd has applied to Pembrokeshire County Council for permission to erect a small, data collecting mast on the Wear Point site and, after public consultation, will apply to build all four masts.
Several councillors who attended Friday’s ceremony gave positive feedback on the new turbines.
