Dr G. C. Bonnin
Saundersfoot
The death of Dr Georges Charles Bonnin, of Monkstone View, The Strand, Saundersfoot, occurred at Withybush Hospital, on September 25th. He was 88.
He was originally from Les Sables d’olonne (Vendee) region of France.
During the Second World War he was in the French Army and was imprisoned by the Germans in Toulouse. As a French lawyer he was present at the Nuremberg Trials on behalf of the French Government. He was also involved with a French team which published captured German diplomatic documents.
He spent six years as a fruit farmer in France and then became a lecturer in Britain until his retirement 23 years ago. He retired to live in Saundersfoot and was a member of the Tenby and district Labour Party.
His other interests included historical writing, reading, studying languages and he was also a practising Catholic.
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Morfydd Bonnin (wife); Jean Bonnin (son); Evelyn Bonnin (daughter-in-law); Gwyneth Thomas (sister) and her family, his late brother’s family, daughters and families, nieces, nephews and their families.
The funeral was held at St Bride’s Church, Saundersfoot, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. The French National anthem was played and the coffin was draped in the French tricolour. Unable to attend the funeral was Evelyn Bonnin (daughter-in-law).
There were family flowers only with donations if so desired, for the Parkinsons Society, to E. C. Thomas and Son, funeral directors, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr B. N. Best
Pennar
THE funeral of Bernard Norman Best, of Cross Park, Pennar, took place on September 19th at St Patrick’s Church. He was 83.
Bernie, as he was known by all, was born in Hakin, Milford Haven, one of six brothers and two sisters.
Before the war he worked as a butcher’s boy in Hakin. During the war he survived the Royal Naval battles of the Atlantic, Russia, Icelandic convoys and many more. On leaving the navy he started training as a butcher in Milford Haven.
In 1950 he moved to Pembroke Dock as manager of Eastmans, Dimond Street, where he stayed until he retired.
He was married in 1948 to Betty (Hall). They had known each other since childhood, and earlier this year, they celebrated 60 years of marriage with a family party.
Bernie was a founder member of the RNA club, Pembroke Dock. He was also a special constable for 20 years.
The principal mourners are: Betty (wife); Pauline (daughter); Peter and Lesley (son and daughter-in-law); Sharon, Allison, Rebecca, Aaron, Jonathan, Colin (grandchildren); Oliver, Tahlia (great grandchildren), together with many family and friends (some were unable to attend).
The bearers were Trevor Best, Paul Best, Keith Hall and Phillip Hassel (nephews).
There were family flowers only, with donations for the Wales Air Ambulance.
Mrs E. M. Mrosek
Pembroke
THE death occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 15th, of Edna May Mrosek of Margaret’s Way, Pembroke. She was 74.
Edna was born at St Martins Haven and went to Loveston and Lamphey school. She married Ali in 1956 and shortly after moved to Cow Park, Manorbier Newton, where they farmed until Ali’s death in 1974. Edna and her daughters then settled in Pembroke. Her main interest was her home and family.
The family left to mourn are: Angela and Helen (daughters); Stanley and John (sons-in-laws); Philip, Kate, Luke and Emma (grandchildren); Gwen Richards (sister); Ken and Carol Cole (brother and sister-in-law); Brenda and Brinley John (sister and brother-in-law); Heather and John Howells (sister and brother-in-law); Hazel and Barry Powney (sister and brother-in-law) and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held at St Michael’s Church, Pembroke, and officiated by Rev Roger Jones. The bearers were Stanley Harden, John Hamilton, Philip Harden and Luke Hamilton.
There were flowers, with donations to The British Heart Foundation to J. Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr A. Thompson
Hakin
THE funeral of Arthur Thompson, of Woodbine Way, Hakin, Milford Haven, took place at Hamilton Court and at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. He died at Withybush Hospital on September 22nd.
Many family and friends attended the funeral service which was officiated by Rev Alan Chadwick.
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Sylvia (wife); David (eldest son); Amanda and Eric (daughter and son-in-law); Ian and Tracey (youngest son and partner); six grandchildren, Neil, Lucy, Margaret, Carla, Emma and Craig. Flo Charles, Francis Moore and Lorna Rees (sisters); Margaret and Michael Wilks (sister-in-law and brother-in-law) and many nieces and nephews.
There were family flowers only but donations may be sent to the ward ten trust fund, Withybush Hospital.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Merlins Bridge
THE death of Gwynfrae (Gwen) Bolstridge of DeClare Court, Merlins Bridge, occurred at Withybush Hospital on September 28th. She was 80.
Originally from Picton Ferry, The Rhos, near Haverfordwest, she was in the Land Army during the war. She worked at Heathrow Airport when it was being built and as a bus conductress for many years with Western Welsh Buses. She also worked in the kitchens at Brawdy airbase, retiring in the late 1980s.
Her interests included her family, travel and darts.
The funeral service took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on October 3rd and was officiated by Canon Bowen of St Martin’s Church, Haverfordwest.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Norman (husband); Graham, Lyndon, Byron, Gary (sons); Cheryl, Jaqueline (daughters); Bev, Elaine, Gina (daughters-in-law); Phil (son-in-law); 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, family members and friends.
Unable to attend was Beverley (daughter-in-law).
The bearers were Graham Frayling, Lyndon Frayling, Byron Frayling and Gary Frayling (sons).
Donations for the cardiac unit, Withybush Hospital, can be sent to Byron Frayling, 4 St Davids Road, Haverfordwest, SA61 2SE.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by F. G. Rees and Sons, Haverfordwest.
Mr R Richards
Marloes
The funeral of Roy John George Richards, of Gaylane Terrace, Marloes, Haverfordwest, took place on September 23rd. He died on September 15th, at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest. He was 69.
A native of Marloes, he started employment as a farm worker at Crabhall Farm, and then went to work for Mr T. James at Philbeach Farm, from where he retired due to ill health. He was a member of the Auxiliary Coastguards for many years.
Roy loved the countryside and spent many happy hours walking his dogs, fishing in his boat and other country sports. In later years, he enjoyed gardening and made bird tables and nesting boxes as gifts for family and friends. He was well known in the area and a keen follower of local sport.
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Sheila Richards (sister); Mary and Graham Reeves (sister and brother-in-law); Raymond and Margaret Richards (brother and sister-in-law); Joyce and Norman Mathias (sister and brother-in-law); Brian and Janet Richards (brother and sister-in-law); Ian Clarke, Paul Graham, Peter, Andrew and Steven Richards, Beverly, Barry and Adrian Mathias, Wayne, Mark and Philip Richards (nephews and niece); Andrew and Sean (great nephews).
The funeral took place at St Peter's Church, Marloes, followed by interment at Marloes churchyard. Rev Dennis Wight officiated and the bearers were Ian Clarke and Barry Mathias (nephews), Philip Griffiths, David Howells, Vince Goffin and Danny Scale.
There were family flowers only, but donations for Wales Air Ambulance and Cancer Research may be sent to Malcolm Cullen, Rose Cottage, Marloes, Haverfordwest, SA62 3BE.

Milford Haven
THE death occurred on September 17th of Clive Waudby, at his home in Marble Hall Road, Milford Haven.
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. Unable to attend were Shirley Taylor (sister); Bob Waudby and Fred Waudby (brothers from Hull) and Peter Waudby (brother, America).
Clive began working life on the English trawlers out of Fleetwood, and then went trucking throughout England and abroad until he suffered a spine injury and was laid up for four months.
After a year he was back on his feet and returned to travelling on the Spanish fleet, sailing in and out of Milford Haven, where he met Angela Evans, his partner of 20 years.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Milford Haven
THE death occurred of Constance May Moloney, of Trafalgar Road, Milford Haven, on September 24th. She was 83.
Originally from Haven’s Head, her interests included her family and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick Joseph Moloney.
The family left to mourn are: Martin Moloney, Irene Murphy, Joan Birchmore, David Moloney and Paul Moloney (sons and daughters); Gareth, Matthew, Darren Moloney, James and Simon Murphy, Sebastian Birchmore, Luke and Rachel Moloney (grandchildren); John Murphy, Alan Birchmore and Debbie Moloney (partners); John Davies (friend and neighbour); John, Andrew and family (nephew); William, Andrew and family (nephew) and Sally.
The funeral took place at St David’s church, Hubberston, followed by interment at Thornton cemetery. Rev Alan Chadwick officiated.
A tribute was read by sons Martin and Paul. The bearers were Matthew Moloney, Darren Moloney, Simon Murphy and Paul Moloney.
Donations in lieu of flowers for Alzheimer’s Society can be submitted to The Nationwide Building Society. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
Mr S. Craig
Fishguard
THE Requiem Mass for Stan Craig was celebrated by Monsignor Canon C. H. Johnson at the Church of the Holy Name, Fishguard, on Tuesday, September 16th. Stan was much-loved and respected for his integrity, generosity, honesty and fairness.
The church and crematorium were full of family, friends, colleagues and representatives from societies he had been involved with.
The principal mourners were: Phyl (wife); Susan and Harry (daughter and son in law); Stephen and Kevin (sons). Unable to attend due to illness was Paula (daughter).
Other mourners were Amy, Lucy, Craig, Ben, Cally, Sam and Evie (grandchildren); Allan (brother); Lorna and Derek (sister and brother in law); Noel and Jean (brother in law and partner); Enda (brother in law), Nancy, Mary and Pat (sisters in law) and nephews and nieces.
During the service, Glenys Woodhouse (friend), gave a reading. Christine May (family friend) gave a moving tribute and spoke of Stan’s participation in local societies.
He had been in business for more than 50 years and his work took him all over Wales. Stan only finally semi-retired in 2006.
He was a keen sportsman during his school days. In later life he was captain of Newport Golf Club. A fly fisherman, he enjoyed summer weekends in his caravan near the river Cothi. Stan had been a member of Fishguard Rotary Club for many years and had been commodore of Fishguard Yacht Club.
The bearers were Harry Evans, Robbie Reynolds, Liam Siggins and Robert Rees. There were family flowers only but donations in lieu of flowers for the chemotherapy day unit, may be sent to Withybush Hospital Barclays Bank, Market Street, Fishguard.

Walwyn’s Castle
THE death occurred on October 1st of Percival Ronald Rees (Ronnie), of Beechwood, Walwyns Castle. He died at Torestin, Tiers Cross, after a three-week stay. He was 90.
He had farmed at Moor Farm, Walwyns Castle for 42 years, before his retirement in 1983. He was a native of Walwyns Castle and his main interests were his farm, family and gardening.
The principal mourners are: Betty Rees (his wife of 67 years); Dilys and Hayden Vaughan, Christine and Jim Llewellin (daughters and sons-in-law); Colin and Jean Rees (son and daughter-in-law). Nicola and Colin Rodgers, Vanessa and Brett Salisbury, (granddaughters and husbands); Robert and Lucy Vaughan, Jason and Ros Lewellin, (grandsons and wives); Paul Vaughan, Andrew Rees (grandsons), Rachael Rees (granddaughter). William, Megan, Kate and Rebecca (great-grandchildren); Bernie and Rosemary Rees, Brynmor and Pam Rees, Roy and Peggy Rees, Esme and Alan Davies, Denis and Christine Rees, Ronnie Davies, Alan and Barbara Davies, Betty and David Devonald (nieces and nephews).
The funeral was held at St James Church, Walwyns Castle, on 7th October, followed by interment in the churchyard. The officiating clergy were Rev Rhiannon Johnson, Rev Andrew Johnson and Rev Cecelia Charles. Bearers were Robert and Paul Vaughan, Jason Llewellin, Andrew Rees, Colin Rodgers and Brett Salisbury.
Donations in lieu of flowers for St James church may be sent to H. G. Scurlock, Gordy Hall, Little Haven.
The funeral directors were F. G. Rees and Sons.
