National Park planners will go against the views of the Marloes and St Brides Community Council today (Wednesday), as they recommend approval of three planning applications in the centre of Marloes.

One of the applications is for the replacement of a 19th century single storey cottage with a more modern, one and a half storey, three bedroom house.

The building the applicants want to demolish, Cri y Wylan, located off the Old Square, is believed to be one of the oldest cottages in the village, it was listed on the 1842 tithe map of Marloes.

The local community council has objected to the plans because they feel the cottage is "part of the old fabric of the village," but planning officers argue that "unsympathetic" alterations of the building have already spoiled its traditional aesthetic.

The new building, say officers, respects the surrounding environment with its traditional finishes and its modest scale and design.

Members of the park's Development Management Committee have discussed the application once before and voted to defer their decision to allow a site visit.

The other two Marloes applications involve the car park area opposite the recently refurbished Clock Tower. The applicants have submitted plans to alter the car park layout and to build a four bedroom house in a new plot on the land.

The local community council has objected to the development because they fear the new house will block visibility of the car park, meaning visitors will park on the main street. Again planning officers have recommended approval.
