A 48-year-old Newport woman was found to have nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol in her system, after another motorist reported her erratic driving on the main Haverfordwest-Milford Haven road.
Leona Cerian Frodl of Maes-y-Groes, College Square, Newport, pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared before magistrates at Haverfordwest today ( Monday). Crown Prosecutor Tim Roberts told the court that a breath test revealed 134mgms of alcohol compared with the legal limit of 35.
She had been reported on May 12th by a taxi driver following her car down Dredgeman Hill who told police he kept his distance because "she was all over the shop."
There were two empty bottles of wine and some full ones in the car when she was found at Freystrop. Mr Roberts said she had a previous conviction for drink driving in 2001 and also convictions in Germany.
Her solicitor Alun Morgan told the court she recognised she needed help with her drink problem and had already made moves in that direction.
Describing the offence as very serious, the chairman told Frodl she would receive a 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and a four year ban.
The magistrates, who ordered £400 prosecution costs, also imposed a 12-months Supervision Order with a requirement that she enrolled on a drink-driving programme. They offered her a PRISM course which could reduce her ban by 25%.
