A Pembrokeshire native tree nursery established by a project that involves people with learning disabilities in environmental projects, has been given a financial boost thanks to a partnership with a kitchen supply company.
Esteam, which is a not-for-profit organisation based at Warren, near Pembroke, will be given a percentage of profits made from the sale of every kitchen at Haverfordwest-based Lawrence Lyons Exclusive Kitchens.
The company, which recently opened in Market Street and is run by Pembrokeshire farmer’s son, Lawrence Couzens, says it has an environmental responsibility to replace trees used in the construction of its kitchens.
The company sells a bespoke range of traditional and contemporary kitchens and many of these are made of solid wood.
“It is not our policy to just take wood and not replace it,’’ said Lawrence. “With my farming background I am very aware that we must put something back into the environment.’’ “Esteam is doing a fantastic job and we felt that by supporting its work we would not only be supporting the environment but allowing the benefits of that support to be enjoyed locally.’’ Paul Cook, who established Esteam after working in social services for 20 years, said this financial support would be of great benefit to the organisation’s work.
“Our native tree nursery is in its infancy so this money will be used to help establish this facility.
“It will also help us with environmental projects, such as looking after woodlands, which we run to train people with learning disabilities,’’ he said.
