A TEENAGER has been found guilty of raping two 16-year-old girls.

Nathan John was accused of raping a girl in the early hours of October 2, 2022, after going out drinking in Milford Haven the night before, and of raping a second girl in Haverfordwest on May 16 this year.

The 19-year-old, of Richard John Road in Milford Haven, had been on trial accused of seven sexual offences against the two girls – all of which he denied.

However, after around three hours and 40 minutes of deliberations, John was found guilty of three offences of rape, as well as sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault, and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

He was acquitted of sexual assault by penetration relating to the second victim.

Judge Rees thanked the jury for the consideration they had given the case.

“This was a deeply unpleasant case and a case that causes right-thinking members of the community to be concerned,” he said.

“I am sorry that you had to hear about such unpleasantness and the detail you had to pay to it.”

The court had heard that the first defendant and the first victim had been drinking at Nos Da bar and Circles nightclub in Milford Haven on the night of October 1. They knew each other, and kissed and danced together, but the girl “wasn’t interested in anything else,” prosecutor James Hartson said.

When walking the victim home, John threw her coat on the floor before then throwing her to the ground, taking his trousers off and carrying out ”a frenzy of sexual violence”.

The girl ran home and immediately reported the incident to her parents. John was arrested, and told police in interview that the girl had consented. He was released under investigation.

The defendant and the second victim were out with friends in Haverfordwest on May 16. They decided to walk together, and he led her in to a car park and started to kiss her, causing her to pull away.

“This young man doesn’t take no for an answer,” said Mr Hartson.

The jury were told that John told the girl ‘If you don’t do it I’m going to kill you’, having previously shown her that he was carrying a knife.

After the attack, the defendant punched her to the floor and ran away. The jury was shown Ring doorbell footage from a house on Dew Street showing the complainant crying as she ran to a friend’s house, where she reported the rape.

John was arrested and was recorded on body-worn footage shouting and making threats, before again claiming the sex had been consensual.

During his closing speech, Mr Hartson had asked the jury to consider “the striking similarity between these two allegations, 10 miles and 19 months apart, made by two young women who do not know each other.”

“He’s a man who is powerfully built,” Mr Hartson said. “When he decided he wanted sex, these two girls – isolated and alone – didn’t stand a chance.”

John was further charged with two offences of making indecent images of children – one Category B and one Category C image – and possessing an extreme pornographic image – depicting a person performing oral sex with a dog – between July and September last year.

He admitted these offences.

Judge Rees adjourned the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, but warned John he should expect him to “pass a sentence measured in years” when he returns to court on November 8.

The defendant must also now register as a sex offender.
