A MAN has heaped praise on those who came to the aid of his wife in Wrexham after an incident on Thursday.
Joanne Knight, from Chirk was at Alyn Waters Country Park on Thursday afternoon riding a bike. She came off the bike and was in considerable discomfort suffering a six inch open wound to her leg.
An ambulance was called and in the mean time, staff from Alyn Waters came to support Joanne, with the estimated wait of four hours for an ambulance.
The team from Alyn Waters got Joanne comfortable, kept her conscious and performed first aid while waiting for the ambulance service to arrive.
But as Joanne's condition began to deteriorate, the urgency for medical care increased and soon paramedics were on site.
An hour and a half after the incident, paramedics arrived and took over the care for Joanne, before the air ambulance landed half an hour later and transported Joanne to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Joanne was checked into hospital with a suspected broken tibia and fibula, but following tests there were no breaks, just a severe wound which required surgery.
Joanne's husband Kevin couldn't thank the staff at Alyn Waters, and the Welsh Ambulance service staff enough, saying without them, his wife "wouldn't be here".
Kevin added: "I cannot thank Mark from groundworks at Alyn Waters and his staff enough.
"They provided first aid, made her comfy on the floor while waiting for the ambulance, which was initially a four to six hour wait.
"They kept her stable and conscious and if it wasn't for them, the air ambulance and ground ambulance, my wife wouldn't be here.
"The staff at Alyn Waters especially, I owe them big time as they kept her alive."
