A Pembrokeshire village celebrated for its strong community spirit has launched its own lottery to support local projects.

The Saundersfoot Community Lottery was officially launched on October 1 after months of work by a dedicated group of volunteers.

Their efforts have been welcomed by Saundersfoot South county councillor Chris Williams who said: "This is a great opportunity for everyone who loves our village to support its beating heart, whilst having a chance to win a prize.”

The idea for the lottery came from former county councillor Phil Baker and Regency Hall trustee Sue Boughton-Thomas, with the aim of helping smaller events and projects that may otherwise struggle due to funding shortages and cumbersome application processes.

Prize fund pot

Each ticket costs just £5 per month, providing players with a chance to win various cash prizes. Fifty percent of the total pot is allocated for prizes, while the other half (minus a small administration fee) goes to a fund to support local initiatives.

So, even if players don’t win, they are still contributing to events and projects in the village.

Participation is open to anyone 18 or older with a UK bank account, so players don’t have to be a resident of Saundersfoot to join in. Once payment is set up, tickets will automatically be entered into the monthly lottery until players choose to opt out.

Forms can be obtained at The Regency Hall or people can sign up online at http://www.saundersfootcommunitylotto.org. Players are encouraged to follow the Facebook page for updates on prize draws, news, and information.

The work of the volunteers to establish the Lottery has included ensuring that all necessary licenses and regulations are adhered to, while maintaining a fair, safe and enjoyable experience for players.

Local businesses have also been generous with their time and skills including Anne Meredith of Stirling Design who designed the logo , Phill Bernier from Adira Ltd who designed the website and Gareth Davies who donated the photographs on the website .
