Shoppers at a popular Pembrokeshire supermarket this weekend were surprised to find aisles missing, low stock and special buy baskets wrapped in plastic.
This was due to the supermarket closing for a major revamp.
Aldi in Haverfordwest closed its doors to shoppers on Saturday, October 5 and will reopen at 8am this Thursday, October 10.
Shoppers at the store on Saturday, who were unaware of the changes, were shocked to see whole aisles of goods removed, fresh food reduced, less stock in the aisles and the week’s special buys covered in plastic wrapping.
However, leaflets in the store reassured them that the supermarket was closing temporarily, with normal service being resumed later in the week.
The new look store at Salutation Square, Haverfordwest, which employs 30 local people, will offer a brand new, easy to navigate, layout designed to help customers speed up their shop, find their favourites and discover new ranges.
There will be a bigger bakery space with a greater choice of bread and cakes, a whole new section dedicated just to confectionary and new back to back fridges.
There will also be more freezers, a bigger health and beauty section, and more space for food special buys in the aisle.
Aldi says that the upgrades will make for an all-round better shopping experience and a more sustainable store.
During re-opening week Aldi Haverfordwest will be offering a range of wooden toys, including a three-storey doll’s house for £39.99, a market stall for £24.99 and a grocery set for £8.99.
“The store is looking fantastic, and we are really looking forward to welcoming back some familiar faces as well as new customers and supplying our local community with the everyday amazing products we have available,” said store manager Dominic Harris.
Haverfordwest’s Aldi will reopen at 8am on Thursday, October 10. In the meantime Aldi fans can still find their favourites at Aldi Pembroke Dock, Cardigan and Carmarthen.
