I bought a bottle of chipotle chilli sauce from an award-winning Pembrokeshire business, and I have not been disappointed.

At Narberth’s annual food festival, I approached the stall belonging to Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm – a previous winner of Best Food & Drink producer at the county show.

Managing director Owen Rosser recommended Chipotle Gold, which is described on the bottle as ‘A Bold, Rich and Smokey sauce.’

Described as a medium/hot sauce, this product definitely has some heat. But it’s not going to force you to drink water every five seconds during your meal or suck on ice cubes.

Heat-wise, I found it perfect for someone who regularly eats spicy food.

Balsamic vinegar is one of the ingredients listed on the bottle and you can taste a bit of that sharpness in the sauce.

However, this is nicely balanced out by the honey and brown sugar also found in the product.

For context, I mainly tried this sauce with two of my favourite meals- chicken wrap with avocados and steak and rice with avocados.

It worked well with both forms of meat. Meat can sometimes be incredibly dry and tasteless so a sauce like this with a relatively thick texture can bring your meal to life.

For the macro-counters out there, the product has 81.7 calories, 0.2g fat, 17.6g carbohydrates (16.3g sugars), 0.9g protein and 0.03g of salt per 100g.

My only criticism of this product is that I would prefer a tad less acidity from the balsamic vinegar. Yet some people would argue that chipotle is defined by that tanginess.

Overall, I would give the Chipotle Gold sauce a rating of 4/5.
