Police, coastguards, a search and rescue helicopter and two local lifeboats have been involved in an urgent search for a missing coast path walker who eventually was found injured on rocks.
Both of Tenby’s lifeboats were requested to launch shortly before 6pm yesterday, Wednesday, October 2, following a report of a missing person between Saundersfoot and Tenby.
The man had left Saundersfoot earlier in the day to walk to Tenby along the coast path. When he failed to arrive in Tenby on time, his family raised the alarm.
The volunteer lifeboat crews were quickly on the water and were tasked to perform a coastline search.
The lifeboats found the walker lying on rocks between Monkstone and Swallowtree. A casualty care trained crew member from Tenby’s Inshore Lifeboat went ashore to assess the man’s injuries and begin treatment.
In the meantime, a coastguard rescue helicopter was requested and made its way from Cardiff.
The helicopter arrived overhead just as the casualty was being transferred to the all-weather lifeboat.
The helicopter’s paramedic was winched to the deck of the lifeboat and treated the casualty with assistance from the crew.
The lifeboat then made its way back to Tenby, rehousing at 8.10pm.
Once in the boathouse, the casualty was transferred into the care of paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance service, who took him to hospital.
Also involved in the search, were members of HM Coastguard Tenby and Dyfed-Powys Police.
