Narberth Jazz's monthly event welcomed back renowned New Orleans pianist Dale Storr.
After a summer hiatus, the jazz club resumed its gatherings at Plas Hyfred on Thursday, September 19, with Storr's distinctive performance that captivated the audience.
Storr's repertoire included a rich blend of New Orleans-inspired genres, reflecting the diverse musical heritage of the Crescent City, spanning from rhumba, boogie, jazz, R&B, rock n’ roll and Mardi Gras, to gospel.
He paid homage to legendary New Orleans musicians, such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Prima, Fats Domino, Wynton Marsalis, and Harry Connick Jr.
Focusing on the works of New Orleans piano maestros, Storr's performance resonated with the spirit and style of artists like Dr John, James Booker, Professor Long Hair, and Alan Toussaint.
Among the pieces rendered were Dr John's 'Joan' and 'Dorothy', a selection by James Booker including 'A Taste of Honey', and some standards in the New Orleans style such as 'I'll be seeing you', 'Pretty and Lovely', and 'Sunny side of the street'.
Storr's storytelling through music, particularly in 'Good Night Irene', was well-received by the attentive audience.
Narberth Jazz's next event is on October 17, featuring award-winning saxophonist Alan Barnes, accompanied by the John Gibbon trio.
Doors open at 7.30pm, and tickets can be purchased from the Narberth Jazz website.
