A Pembrokeshire-based company has two new products being sold in Tesco stores.

Barti Rum has struck a new partnership with the supermarket chain, launching its spiced rum and cream liqueur nationwide.

The products, which were exclusively launched in stores on September 16, are the first Barti Rum beverages to be sold in mainstream supermarkets.

The company, known for its pirate-inspired branding, is keen to highlight its sustainable credentials.

Both the spiced rum and cream liqueur are bottled in containers made from 50 per cent recycled glass, with labels made from fully biodegradable cane sugar byproducts.

The rum, 'brewed with the culture of Pembrokeshire at the heart of it', is infused with wild hand-picked laver seaweed from the Pembrokeshire coast.

This addition is said to give the drink an umami undertone, enriching the taste at 35 per cent alcohol.

Barti Rum's managing director, Fran Barnikel, said: "We understand the importance of history and tradition and we instil this into every bottle we brew.

"Our rum is the perfect marriage between Caribbean distilling and Welsh flavour."

The company's name, Barti, is a nod to the county's seafaring past, specifically John 'Barti Ddu' Roberts, a Pembrokeshire man who was captured by pirates and forced to join their crew in the 17th century.

The brand's label features a traditional Welsh ship, paying homage to this history.

Alongside the spiced rum, the company launched Barti's cream liqueur, a plant-based drink that combines a creamy texture with flavours of vanilla, clove, cinnamon, and a hint of orange.

This drink is suitable for vegans and those on lactose-free diets.

The cream liqueur is Barti's most awarded beverage, having won seven awards at the World Drinks Awards, including 'Best in Country', 'Best New Launch', and 'Best Bottle Design'.

Ms Barnikel added: "With this new spiced rum, we are able to bring the Pembrokeshire flavour reaches every corner of the country and we can’t thank Tesco enough for being a part of this."

The launch of the Barti beverages is the latest achievement for the brand's owner and creator, Jonathan Williams.

14 years ago, Mr Williams left his job and started several businesses, all inspired by his home county of Pembrokeshire.

He has run the successful Café Mor at Freshwater West for the past 14 years, along with the Pembrokeshire Beach Food Company for 12 years.

He has also catered at major events such as the Olympic Village and Glastonbury.

Tesco Wales buyer, Nathan Edwards, expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, saying: "We are enormously proud to be the first retailers to have Barti Rum drinks on our shelves.

"The Barti Rum drinks are synonymous with enjoyment and fun in Wales, and we are happy to be a part of their journey in bringing the Pembrokeshire flavour and culture to the whole of Wales."

Barti Spiced Rum is the latest new Welsh product to be launched by Tesco in Wales, with the supermarket’s Wales-based buying team planning further product launches this year to further expand its range of Welsh products in stores.
