A giant lantern parade will be one of the highlights of a three-day Pembrokeshire festival.

The Ar Ymyl y Tir 2024/On Land’s Edge Festival is set to return to Fishguard from September 20 to 22.

This will be the fourth year of the festival, which celebrates arts and culture in north Pembrokeshire.

Chairperson Patrick Thomas described the event as "an essential part of the cultural scene in West Wales".

He said: "On Land’s Edge/Ar Ymyl y Tir is a festival of all the arts – music, theatre, film, literature, the visual arts and more besides, and a celebration of North Pembrokeshire – the place and the people who live here."

The festival kicks off on Friday night with a lantern parade, created by Small World Theatre, starting from the Ocean Lab in Goodwick and culminating at Fishguard Square at 6.30pm.

The parade will feature fire jugglers, the Goodwick Brass Band, and Joon Dance.

Joon Dance will present a dance show, 'Dancing The Landscape', at Theatr Gwaun at 8pm, followed by a live set from folk singer Mari Mathias at Ffwrn at 9pm.

Saturday will be packed with workshops by FADDS Youth Promenade Theatre and Colours of the Coast at Fishguard Town Hall and Goodwick Scout Hut respectively.

There will also be an interactive sound installation, 'Silent Seas', at Ocean Lab Aquarium.

The festival's popular sea swim will take place at Goodwick Parrog at 11am, while 'Brass on the Square' will entertain at Fishguard Square until 1pm.

Other attractions include the Carreg Coast Relaxed Film Screening at Theatr Gwaun at 11am and a performance by FADDS Youth Promenade Theatre at Fishguard Town Hall and Theatr Gwaun.

The Festival Folk Evening will return to Theatr Gwaun at 7pm, followed by a Twmpath at Ffwrn at 9pm.

Sunday will start with creative writing workshops (in Welsh and English) at Theatr Gwaun from 10am to 12 noon, along with a Young People’s Poetry workshop at Peppers from 1pm to 3pm.

Ffwrn will host a Meet The Authors event at 1pm, while Sea Legs Puppet Theatre will present a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale ‘The Ugly Duckling’ at Theatr Gwaun at 2pm.

Afternoon workshops will include Melissa Pettit’s puppet-making workshop ‘Swanning Around’ at Theatr Gwaun and FAS artists Judith Leyland and Barbara Price will host ‘Sketching on the Gwaun’, in the Gwaun Valley.

The festival will conclude with the traditional Simffoni Mara at Theatr Gwaun at 7.30pm.

The festival, first launched in September 2021, has grown each year with more events and a bigger budget, thanks to Arts Council funding.

The theme for this year's festival is 'borders'.
