A family-run shop in a Pembrokeshire village, which attracts customers from far and wide, is to close its doors.

The Shoe Box in Brewery Terrace, Saundersfoot had been successfully run by Hywel and Gwenda Rees for a number of years, with a large repeat clientele from both locals and visitors.

But sadly, in June, Gwenda died suddenly at the age of 75 and it has now been announced that The Shoe Box is to shut.

A Facebook post said: “Sadly The Shoe Box is closing down … Everything in the shop is now HALF PRICE !

"Amazing bargains to be had - brands like Remonte , Rieker, Lotus and many more, lots of sizes available, men’s shoes too ! Open from 10.30."

The business is renowned for its personal and helpful service, and its many clients – already saddened at the loss of popular Gwenda – have been upset to learn of the closure.

“A wonderful shop,” said one, with another recalling: “I always had friendly, excellent service.”

“Very sad, what a shame,” commented a further customer, while tribute was paid to The Shoe Box’s ‘pride in one-to-one service and quality’ and ‘great shoes, great service'.
