A SEAT driver has admitted careless driving after being caught on camera leaving an unsafe distance as he overtook a cyclist.

John Miles, 50, of Heol Y Felin in Goodwick, was driving a Seat Leon north on the A487 between Manorwen Hill and the A4219 for Scleddau.

A cyclist was travelling in the same direction, and as the cyclist went around a left-hand bend, Miles was alleged to have overtaken them “at an unsafe distance and speed” whilst oncoming vehicles were approaching in the opposite direction.

The incident was recorded on the cyclist’s camera.

The prosecution said that Miles’ standard of driving “fell well below that of a reasonable and competent driver” and that he was driving without due care and attention.

Miles pleaded guilty at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on August 28.

He was hit with a £300 fine, and must pay £110 in costs and a £120 surcharge. Miles also had nine points added to his licence.
