THESE Pembrokeshire drivers have had their cases heard in court elsewhere in Wales across August.

The five defendants were charged with offences including speeding, using a phone at the wheel, driving in a position meaning they were not in proper control, and failing to identify a driver accused of speeding.

Their cases were all heard at Newport Magistrates’ Court.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

CRAIG WILMOTT, 41, of Maesllawddog in Cilgerran, was driving in a position where he didn’t have proper control of a lorry.

Wilmott was driving a Volvo FH without proper control on the eastbound M4 at Newport between junctions 28 and 26 on January 31.

The offence was proved at Newport Magistrates’ Court using the single justice procedure on August 21.

He was fined £220, and must pay £90 in costs and a £88 surcharge. Wilmott was also handed three penalty points.

WILLIAM BROOKS, 47, of Summerhill in Stepaside, was caught speeding in Pontypool.

Brooks was doing 46mph in a Kia Picanto on the A472 at Lower Race – a 40mph limit – when he was clocked by a speed camera on January 26.

The offence was proved at Newport Magistrates’ Court using the single justice procedure on August 20.

Brooks was handed three points, and was ordered to pay a £220 fine, £90 in costs and an £88 surcharge.

JAMIE MACKAY, 23, of Meyler Crescent in Milford Haven, refused to identify the driver of a Vauxhall Corsavan who was alleged to have been speeding on the M4.

The driver of the Vauxhall was alleged to have been doing 58mph through the 50mph average speed limit on the eastbound M4 between junctions 28 and 27 at Newport on January 13.

An offence of failing to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle when required was proved using the single justice procedure at Newport Magistrates’ Court on August 6.

Mackay must pay a £660 fine, £90 in costs and a £264 surcharge. He also had six points added to his licence.

CLAIR STREVENS, 44, of Heol Dewi in St Davids, has admitted using her phone at the wheel.

Strevens was using her phone whilst driving a Vauxhall Vivaro on the westbound A48 in Newport on February 1.

She pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure, and was hit with six points on her licence at Newport Magistrates’ Court on August 21.

Strevens was also ordered to pay a £72 fine, £90 in costs and a £28 surcharge.

SCOTT HAMMETT, 49, of Wellington Road in Hakin, was speeding in the 50mph average speed limit on the M4 at Newport.

Hammett was driving an Audi A3 at 57mph between junctions 28 and 27 on the eastbound M4 on January 12.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure, and was fined £241 at Newport Magistrates’ Court on August 6.

Hammett also had three points added to his licence, and must pay £90 in costs and a surcharge of £96.
