A celebration of top local talent and produce is on the menu at Narberth Food Festival this month.
Serving up a tasty two-day treat on September 28 and 29 will be some of the area’s most innovative producers, musicians and chefs.
The volunteer-run festival offers an opportunity to find out more about how our food is produced and tips on the best ways to whip up tasty quality food from locally sourced ingredients.
It is also a showcase for up and coming and more established musicians from the area with two days of acts curated by local music legend, Pure West Radio presenter BB Skone.
The weekend brings a celebration of local chef talent with guest appearances from:
- Dougie Balish, executive chef at the Fernery (The Grove) Narberth;
- Josh Freeman of smoke salmon experts Salt + Smoke, Kilgetty;
- Karl Jones-Hughes, head chef at Stopio, Narberth;
- Craig Reeves, of Reeves BBQ,
- Gerwyn Jones, Lan y Môr, Saundersfoot
- and Owen Rosser of Pembrokeshire Chilli Farm.
There will also be a demo and talk by miller Emma Williams and baker Gabriele Landi of Y Felin, St Dogmaels, and a chance to find out more about one of Carmarthenshire’s famous offerings, Carmarthen Ham, from the firm’s Matthew Rees.
Among the familiar names set to delight in the food theatre on the Sunday will be the entertaining writer, broadcaster Angela Gray, the festival’s patron.
Also heading into the kitchen will be Crymych resident Ludo Dieumegard, head chef at the Harbourmaster, Aberaeron, once described by food critic Jay Rayner as ‘a magician with food’.
In a long and successful career he has worked in many top kitchens and reached the semi-finals of TV’s Masterchef - The Professionals in 2009.
Carmarthenshire-based broadcaster, author and restaurateur Simon Wright will be taking about about Cegin y Bobl - The People’s Kitchen, a new charity he is establishing with author and Welsh food historian Carwyn Graves and others to work in schools and the community teaching food literacy through cooking.
Live music comes from Abbie Jebbers, Tomos Newman, Desert Life, The Swingin Nettles, Cadence, BoxSet, Rosey Cale, Follically Challenged, John Lewis, Omega Two and Ella Guru.
There will also be more than 40 food stalls and a street food area as well as a bar and children’s entertainment.
Holly Robinson, of Narberth Food Festival committee, said: “We are delighted to once again welcome back some well-known and familiar faces and also showcase some of the up and coming talent in the area.
“All of our guests, chefs, producers and traders take great pride in their work and like nothing more than talking about what they do and helping people try new ideas.
“Once again we have a packed line-up of music, food and entertainment and cannot wait to welcome people for what is sure to be another special festival with something for everyone to enjoy.”
Narberth Food Festival is being held on September 28 and 29 at the Town Moor, Narberth.
Two park and ride schemes will be in operation across the weekend, one at the primary school and the other on the Templeton road.
