A MAN has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

Kevin Stenson, of Haverfordwest, appeared at Swansea Crown Court facing child sex offences which came to light in July 2021.

He has been charged with two historical counts of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by penetration, relating to allegations from 2018 to 2019.

Stenson, 66, denied both charges.

Opening the case, prosecutor Helen Randall told the court that the complainant woke one night to find Stenson “touching her thigh” before further assaulting her with his finger.

Ms Randall said the complainant pretended to still be asleep whilst this was happening.

The complainant said she remembered that incident “very clearly because she was so awake”, Ms Randall said, but did not remember a previous alleged sexual assault in the same circumstances as clearly.

The complainant didn’t tell anyone about the allegations at the time, but they came to light around two years later. A report was later made to the police after she spoke with a member of her school’s pastoral care team.

The trial, before Recorder Christian Jowett, continues.
