Families with young children have had a summer of fun in two parts of Pembrokeshire.

The Pembrokeshire County Council early years integration team has been working in the Tenby and Fishguard areas to support families with children aged 0-7 years.

The team, which collaborates with midwives and health visitors, organised family fun sessions over the school holidays to help families cope with the long break and unpredictable Pembrokeshire weather.

They partnered with schools to ensure that indoor spaces were available for all six sessions should there be a need to go indoors.

Three sessions were held in each area and, except for the last one, all enjoyed sunny weather, allowing families to fully utilise outdoor spaces.

The Play Works Grant was used to provide fruit pots and healthy wraps for families to create.

The healthy preschool practitioner from Hywel Dda University Health Board attended each event to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Various charities and organisations supported the events, including the Family Information Service and ASD Family Help, which provided circus skill activities and outdoor equipment.

The Citizens Advice Bureau offered colouring and badge-making activities centred around budgeting.

Small Woods added to the fun with nature activities, including creating bunting and willow wands.

Volunteering Matters brought in volunteers who organised activities like crown-making, a drumming session, and board games.

Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet member for education and Welsh language, Cllr Guy Woodham, said: "These series of events have been so much fun and brilliant support for the families involved across the summer.

"My thanks go to everyone who has been involved."

A total of 84 adults and 165 children attended the Tenby sessions, while 60 adults and 106 children took part in the Fishguard events.

With the early years team offering additional activities, one of the highlights was children face painting their parents.

Plant Dewi project worker, Carys, promoted a new 'messy and sensory' play group at the events.

The Early Years Team will be joining Plant Dewi to provide a new Families Together Group starting in St Teilo's Church Hall, Tenby, on September 4, running every week from 9.30am to 11.30am.
