THE lifeboat crew at St Davids were called out after a dog went over a cliff on Bank Holiday Monday.

St Davids RNLI launched its inshore lifeboat, the Marian and Alan Clayton, after reports of a dog falling over a cliff between Abereiddy and Porthgain.

With the help of the St Davids Coastguard Rescue Team, the volunteer crew were able to locate the dog on the rocks at the foot of the cliffs.

The dog appeared unharmed, and was transferred to Coastguard volunteers waiting at Porthgain.

It was a busy day for St Davids RNLI, after the crew were called out by HM Coastguard after reports from members of the public on the coast path of two paddleboarders in difficulty off Abereiddy at around 1.21pm.

The Norah Wortley, St Davids’ all-weather lifeboat, was launched headed past St Davids Head to reach the paddleboarders.

After leaving Abereiddy beach, the paddleboarders found themselves battling against both tidal and weather conditions.

The two boarders were taken aboard the lifeboat for assessment. Both were in good health and returned by the Y-boat to the shelter of the blue lagoon.

It was only seven minutes after the crew arrived back at the lifeboat station that they received their second callout.

Judd Kohler, RNLI deputy coxswain for St Davids RNLI lifeboat, said: “It was a busy bank holiday afternoon for our volunteers but thankfully a successful outcome at both rescues.

“Some of our crew were scheduled to represent the station at St Davids Carnival but had to divert from the parade to these lifesaving launches.”
