A musical dragon roared down the streets yesterday, Sunday, August 25, as seaside town came alive to the sound of Jazz and Blues.

Idris the Dragon delighted bumper crowds during the Aberjazz parade.

Led by the Boogaloo Babes, who had come fresh from performing a sumptuous set at Ffwrn, and followed by the eclectic, eccentric Les Zoings, Idris set off from Fishguard’s Gorsedd Stones.

Followed by hundreds of people, both locals and visitors, the parade wound its way through the streets of Fishguard, cheered on by crowds lining the pavements and waving from shops and houses.

Then it was off to the town hall where Idris delighted both adults and children by boogieing to the sounds of Les Zoings, a London-based band whose weird and wacky fancy dress and quirky sounds set the scene perfectly.

The town hall itself was a hive of activity with an open mic showcasing some super talent and a busting Paul Sartori vintage market with many treasures to be found.

There was also a huge selection of vinyl for sale from Core of the Poodle, a bar selling Gwaun Valley beer and wine from Lush, in Goodwick as well as mouthwatering street food from Shaar Cuisine.

“Every year this goes from strength to strength,” said one enthusiastic attendee. “It is just one part of the wonderful Fishguard Jazz and Blues Festival festival that gets the whole town buzzing with all sorts of music in all sorts of places. There really is something for everyone.”

Aberjazz continues today, bank holiday Monday, with song writing and jazz improvisation workshops, free music in the Yacht Club and the Coach House and gigs in Ffwrn and Peppers.
