A petition has been launched in a Pembrokeshire seaside village to get a reduction of the 40mph speed limit in place on its approach.

Residents of Broad Haven are campaigning for the speed limit along the B4341 at Broadway to be cut.

Despite not having a pavement, children are expected to walk along it as the road as it is designated as a ‘safe route to school’ and it is also popular with walkers, cyclists and horse-riders.

Emma Pritchard, who set up the petition on behalf of the Broadwway Community Action Group,, said: “Countless accidents happen regularly along this stretch of road many unreported, with a terrible accident resulting in an air ambulance happening last week on the stretch of road just before the village.

“ We hope those involved are recovering."

Emma also highlighted the fact that as Broad Haven is popular with visitors, an increased number of people use the road in the summer months.

She added: “With three campsites in the village, the population over the summer is much higher, with a lot of pedestrians on the road.”

The online petition is entitled ‘Reduce the speed limit through Broadway’ says: “We call on Pembrokeshire County Council to reduce the speed limit through the community of Broadway.

"The road is shared with pedestrians, children, dogs, horses and cyclists. It is the ‘pavement’ through Broadway. The current speed limit is dangerous to those sharing the road with vehicles."

The petition runs until Tuesday September 2 and can be signed here
