A local boxing club has received a grant to purchase new equipment and put more people on coaching courses.
Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Amateur Boxing Club have purchased new gloves, headguards and now have the funds to send locals on Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Welsh Boxing courses.
The club is run by Christopher McEwen who was awarded at the 2024 Welsh Veterans Awards in July for his dedication to running disabled boxing programs and contributing to the Welsh Fitness Industry and Society.
On a Facebook post, Chris wrote: “Thank you to Sports Wales and the National Lottery. If it wasn’t for you, we would not be here today without your continued grassroots support.
“Thank you to Welsh Boxing again and a massive thank you to Head of Community, Gareth Evans, for his continued support with our inclusion programmes.
“Today we received five brand new Roma medical chairs for our growing wheelchair boxing classes which are free and take place every Thursday from 7pm until 8pm.
“From everybody at the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock ABC and Great Britain Disability Boxing, thank you.”
Chris also hosts disabled and inclusive boxing sessions every Thursday from 5pm and is the chairman of Great Britain Disability Boxing.
In addition to Pembroke, Chris is a regular coach at Insport series, providing inclusive opportunities for disabled adults across Wales.
Apart from disability boxing, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock ABC offers junior boxing classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5pm to 6pm.
Senior boxing classes are on the same days but from 6pm to 7:30pm.
