A CASUALTY was rescued from a 3000-tonne tanker by helicopter and rushed to hospital yesterday (August 16).

The person on board an 83-metre ship in St Brides Bay experienced chest pains which prompted the launch of an all-weather St Davids’s lifeboat at 1:52pm.

The casualty was monitored by crew members before being extracted from the ship by helicopter and taken to Swansea for treatment.

(Image: St David's RNLI) St David’s RNLI posted: “Upon arrival, lifeboat Norah Wortley drew alongside and transferred three crew onto the 3000-tonne vessel, one of which was the stations volunteer lifeboat medical advisor.

“The casualty was assessed and monitored until HM Coastguard Rescue 187 helicopter arrived from its base at St Athan.

“Following a short handover, the volunteer crew assisted the winchman with extraction of the casualty by helicopter, who was taken directly to Swansea for hospital treatment.

“After the safe extraction was complete, the St Davids crew transferred back aboard the lifeboat and returned to the station, rehousing at 4.00pm.”
