Dear Editor - Councillor John Davies is quoted as being "disappointed with the Welsh Assembly settlement figure of 2% when the RPI was far in excess".

He should not be surprised given the parallel universes being deployed by Westminster and the Welsh Assembly.

In the real' world represented by the retail prices index (RPI), inflation is officially around 5%.

But in a parallel universe inhabited by the Welsh Assembly, inflation is just 2%.

The Welsh Assembly underfunds the settlement figures and leaves local taxpayers to make up the difference.

This is a regressive, backdoor tax burden that falls on and most impoverishes those who can least afford to pay.

Most people live in the real world where fact is 5% and fiction is 2%.

If you cannot trust politicians to give the correct inflation figures, why would you believe anything else they might say?
