Dear Editor -If Charlie Mason (Letters, March 26th) doesn't doubt the national demand for energy where does he think it will come from, if not from power stations?
Nor are Pembrokeshire county councillors as cavalier as Mr Mason suggests in their endorsement of the power station at West Pennar.
The planning committee considered an extensive environmental statement and committee report of the highest calibre, weighing every aspect of this proposal.
So claims that county councillors have ignored the environmental and social impacts of this proposal are wrong.
Councillors have chosen to support a proposal after a thoroughly professional investigation.
One of the points made in the report is that the power station would generate only half of the carbon dioxide produced by its oil-fired predecessor. That is surely progress.
The RWE npower application will not be determined by the local planning authority but goes to the secretary of state for decision, possibly after a public inquiry.
