Over 400 illegal vehicles have been seized by Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit in the last year.
437 seizures have been made under section 165 of the road traffic act since April 2007.
This section allows police to seize any vehicle which is not covered by insurance or if the driver does not have the correct licence.
PC Craig Morgan, of Pembrokeshire roads policing unit said: "Drivers sometimes think they will not bother with the cost of insurance.
"However if you drive your vehicle on a road you have a responsibility to ensure everything about the vehicle and yourself is legal. You require a valid driving licence and valid insurance.
"Automatic Number Plate Readers enable police officers to check on the legality of vehicles within seconds.
"Should you not have this cover you risk having your vehicle seized.' Drivers who drive without the correct documentation will not only face their vehicle being seized but also they will receive a substantial fine in court plus penalty points on their driving license. There will also be a recovery fee of £105 plus £12 per day storage.
"Having insurance and a driving licence are legal requirements. Pembrokeshire RPU will continue to seize vehicles to ensure drivers get the message that they need to be legal before getting behind the wheel."
Police are also warning vehicle owners who let others drive their vehicles because if the driver does not have the correct documentationthen both the owner and driver commit offences and both will be summonsed.
