Tenby lifeboat launched yesterday evening (Sunday) after a surfer and his board parted company in the sea off Castle Beach.
The inshore lifeboat retrieved the board from the sea shortly after 5.15pm. The surfer was already safe on the beach.
"We launched as a precautionary measure," said Tenby lifeboat spokesman Bob James.
"We didn't want the surfer, or anyone else, putting themselves in danger by going back into the sea to try and recover the board.
"We also didn't want a lone board to be discovered later yesterday evening or even today and a huge search launched for the missing surfer.
"This was a preventative rescue."
