Documents leaked to the Western Telegraph seem to confirm that the Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock offices are not part of HM Revenue and Customs' future plans, adding another nail to the coffin of Pembrokeshire's tax offices.
A controversial internal announcement lists the "preferred locations for local compliance" offices in 2011, and both Pembrokeshire offices are listed as not being preferred locations where taxes are checked.
One HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) employee, who does not wish to be named, told the Western Telegraph: "Although the preferred locations are not set in stone it doesn't look good for the Pembrokeshire offices.
"It is the not knowing which is the worst thing - they will not commit themselves one way or the other. There are single parents, those with parental responsibilities and mortgages, it is a major concern for some."
Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MP Nick Ainger, said: "I have arranged to meet Jane Kennedy MP, the minister with responsibility for HMRC, with other Labour MPs, to discuss the next phase of the rationalisation programme.
"I have been in close contact with Steve Lazenby of the Public and Commercial Services Union and will continue to fight to retain a strong HMRC presence in west Wales."
Mr Lazenby said: "The plans were announced in advance of the preferred offices being told the results of the consultation. This is further evidence of the department wanting to run the Pembroke Dock and Haverfordwest offices down. We reject the proposals absolutely and are committed to maintaining not just a presence but working, vibrant offices in Pembrokeshire."
Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb, added: "It is ludicrous that while ministers are officially saying that no final decisions have yet to be made on the future of the tax office in Pembrokeshire there are statements made internally by senior management about what their preferred business model would be.
"It does nothing to dispel the widespread view that the review is a sham and that Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock are being lined up already for closure.
"I will continue to work with my Westminster colleagues to keep these jobs in Pembrokeshire."
