A woman with learning difficulties who damaged a friend's property and assaulted two police officers when her birthday celebrations turned sour was ordered to pay £160 by Haverfordwest magistrates yesterday (Thursday).

Christine Gallears , of 73 Augustine Way, had been out with a friend Hugh Jones to celebrate her birthday in October last year.

After an argument Jones went home leaving Gallears upset as she felt he had spoilt her evening. Gallears then proceeded to Jones' home and threw a paving brick through the windscreen of his car and another through the kitchen window.

Jones, who had been out walking his dog at the time of the damage, called the police.

When two female police officers visited her home Gallears became agitated, pushing and kicking out. One of the officers sustained a swollen knee while the other had a sore shin and scratched hand.

Magistrates were told that Gallears and Jones had a substantial background and Gallears already had a string of offences concerning Mr Jones. For one of these she had been given a suspended prison sentence from Swansea crown court.

In Gallears' defence it was said that she had difficulty in comprehending situations and that her understanding of normal life was not the same as everyone else's.

After considering reports from the probation service and psychiatrists, magistrates gave Gallears a two year community order with a two year supervision order. She was also ordered to pay £100 costs and a total of £60 compensation: £30 for each police officer.

They said that Swansea crown court would be notified of the breach of the suspended sentence.
