Dear Editor - The precedent set in granting planning permission at East Blockhouse, Angle, does not bode well for the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's continued tight rein on planning matters in the county.
I expect the next person who wishes to convert a former military/government building in open countryside to holiday homes will be able to do so. Many have been denied permission in the past but how could they now refuse?
Furthermore, the decision allows for replacement of intrinsically military features of the era such as secure fencing and utilitarian materials, so how in future will the authority be able to insist on retention of historic features on other projects?
The time is fast approaching where dramatic steps will need to be taken to restore public confidence in the authority to do the job with which it is charged, for the public good.
Failure to do so is likely to see the situation descend into chaos which will undo so much of the good work it has done over the years.
