A Pembroke Dock man who has pleaded guilty to possessing 252 grammes of skunk cannabis with a street value of £1,280, is due to be sentenced today.
Ashley Steven Hughes, of 9 Princes Street, Pembroke Dock, claimed he had bought the drugs in bulk for personal use in order to make a saving.
At a previous hearing magistrates heard how officers had stopped Hughes' Renault Laguna on the Carew roundabout in connection with another matter.
The officer who spoke to the 23-year-old could smell cannabis and said he was going to search the car. Hughes told him to look behind the seat. The officer found two plastic bags filled with skunk.
The court heard that Hughes had received money for his birthday and had gone up to Cardiff to bulk buy the skunk, which he had paid £600 for. The prosecution accepted that the drugs were for personal use.
Magistrates were told that Hughes had an ongoing problem with drugs, which he had used since his mid teens.
The defence said that Hughes had sought help for his problem and had been clean for the last few weeks, he is currently unemployed but had been promised a labouring job if he remains drug free.
