A popular Narberth footpath is now more suited to a canoe than walking boots after recent heavy rain aggravated its drainage problems, the town's county councillor has said this week.
Councillor Wynne Evans is calling for urgent action to be taken on Carding Mill Lane, which leads down from the Town Moor.
"My patience is running out," he said this week, describing the picturesque walk as more resembling a river.
He is hoping to meet senior Pembrokeshire County Council officers soon to establish some positive drainage plans for the area.
Cllr Evans added: "The problem stems from natural springs that run across the Town Moor playing area and follow the water course through the clay banks and then flow onto the lane. This is not helped by the existence of the old landfill site under the grassed banks.
"It's not just this area that floods, but footpaths that run across the playing field area, used by many people and children to get to school."
Cllr Evans said he is not accepting the argument that the flooding only happens during very heavy rain, and has kept a picture diary to show that excess water is a regular occurrence.
He vowed: "I will not be looking for a quick fix solution, but a long-term plan to solve the problem once and for all."
He also voiced his disappointment at the amount of litter, bottles and other fly-tipped items in the lane, despite a major clear-up of the area by Templeton YFC just two months ago.
