More than 40 people in Pembrokeshire and as far afield as Australia are following in the footsteps of keen walker Lyn Sandall to beat the November blues.

Lyn, 70, decided to set herself the challenge of a daily walk throughout the month to boost her spirits.

She invited everyone she knows to get moving, get active and get fitter and the response has been ‘fantastic’, she said.

Lyn, of New Hedges, near Tenby, set up the Walk the Walk group on Facebook for people to post their proposed challenges and photos.

Her husband, Keith, was one of the first up to the mark when he decided to cycle 10 miles a day and play some music en route.

Other pledges include cold-water swimming, acts of kindness, walking 250,000 steps a month and ‘getting out of bed by 9am each day’.

Lyn and her friends Debbie Ludlow and Lyn Knibbs – who fundraise together as Team Littlefoot – are dressing up as monks throughout ‘Monkvember’.

They are adding to the fundraising of Sheila Ravenscroft for Guide Dogs Cymru to mark the charity’s 90th birthday, and will be out and about in various Pembrokeshire locations every day.

“The response from everyone has been quite staggering,” admitted Lyn. “I started the challenge because I am not usually too keen on November and thought that doing lots of walking would get me through the month.

“I thought it would be great to spread it around and people have been so keen to get on board – the feedback has been amazing.”

And the challenge is not just for the grown-ups.

Ten-year-old Sofia Guyton from Pembroke Dock is doing 20 sit ups every day and reading as many books as she can.

Lewis Ludlow, 10, from Saundersfoot is giving his dogs, Percy and Poppy, daily walks and Lyn’s nine-month-old grandson  Dylan, from Cwmbran is out with his parents Gareth and Kat for a walk of at least five kilometres each day.

Anyone who would like to join in the fun can ask to join the Walk to Walk group on Facebook.
