Bomb disposal experts were called to Newport yesterday, Monday, evening to detonate a device on the beach.
Dyfed-Powys Police moved to reassure locals who may have heard the explosion that it was nothing to worry about.
“Residents of Newport may have heard a loud bang at approx. 6.30pm this evening,” said a police spokesperson.
“There is nothing to be concerned about.
“A controlled detonation of a device was safely conducted by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) on Newport beach.”
Police have said this morning that the device was a 'marine marker smoke flare' which was found at a property in Newport and taken to the beach to be safely detonated.
