PEMBROKESHIRE's wheelchair sports star, Lily Rice, has had a date with Royalty ahead of being honoured as a Radio 1 Teen Hero.
Lily, aged 14, from Manorbier, was amongst eight inspirational young people nominated for the awards who were invited to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace this week.
The teenager is being hailed a global leader in the fast-growing sport of WCMX (wheelchair motocross), is one of only three chosen from the group to be named a Teen Hero, and she will receive her prize on Sunday at Wembley Arena, alongside performances from artistes including Little Mix and Liam Payne.
The awards honours the UK's unsung teenage heroes, as well as the year's best music, online, sport and entertainment stars.
Greenhill School pupil Lily shot to fame when she became the first female to perform a back flip in a wheelchair. She was also only the second girl in the world to pull off the stunt.
In April, she won a silver medal in the Women's Open World Championships in America, following it up by striking gold in August in the first International German Open in Hamburg.
Lily has also been working hard to change the lives of others through WCMX and has been helping youngsters access the sport, introducing them to skateparks and enabling them to access funding to get their own WCMX chairs.
