BEACH cleaners will have a spring in their step in Amroth on Sunday when all the fun of an Easter egg hunt is combined with a two hours of environmental action.
The Big Spring Easter Egg hunt is being organised as part of one of a series of Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) beach cleans in south Pembrokeshire.
Organisers Anna Strzelecki and her 12-year-old daughter, Jaz - the local representatives for the charity - have painted 50 pebbles which will be hidden on the beach.
Everyone taking part in the clean-up will be asked to look out for the lucky stones, each of which can then be exchanged for a prize donated by local businesses.
"Last year, 111 people took part, and we're expecting far more this year because of the growing concern about plastic pollution," said Anna.
Some of the plastic debris collected from the beach will be used to fill a community art installation of a giant steel sea bass which will create a focal point for the Clean Seas campaign, which ties in with the Visit Wales Year of the Sea.
The project to create the fish is being led by Amroth Community Council, with the support of Saundersfoot Community Council, with funding from Leader - Arwain Sir Benfro.
The registration point for the Easter beach clean will be Anna's little yellow van, from which she sells her iSea Surfwear hand-made and printed coast-inspired clothing.
She is currently crowdfunding for a new vehicle that will serve not only as a shop and beach clean hub but also a workshop with solar-powered sewing machines
SAS will also be supporting a beach clean by Trevayne Farm camping and caravan site at Monkstone, Saundersfoot on Saturday from 11am to 1pm, while on Saturday April 14, there will be a beach clean at Tenby's South Beach from 11am to 3pm, which will also be the launch event for the Plastic-Free Tenby initiative.
Sunday April 15 will then see a clean-up at Freshwater West between 11am and 3pm, including a Nurdle Hunt for the plastic pellets used in manufacturing industries which wash up on shores.
