PUPILS from Pembroke’s Golden Grove School-Ysgol Gelli Aur celebrated World Book day recently, a week later than planned due to the recent snow.
With pupils arriving at school dressed as characters from the many books they read and a day of related activities it was well worth the wait.
Mrs Bruce led an assembly for the juniors, sharing her enthusiasm and love for books - which included four short stories for the children to select their favourite.
Artist and illustrator Fran Evans, also shared her wonderful story ‘Marsh Pony’, much to the delight of the audience.
Later in the day a Foundation Phase assembly was led by Mrs Jones, focusing on the wonderful children's author Julia Donaldson. The children looked at and talked about 29 books that she has written, voting for their favourites, and also including singing/giggling to Pull a Funny Face by Julia Donaldson.
Parents and grandparents joined Orange Class to read with the children, it was a really wonderful thing to witness and was enjoyed by all who took part.
Classes 3RB and Red Class were top in the sponsored read. More than £650 was raised, which will be used to buy more reading books
Head teacher Andy Williams said: “Many thanks to everyone who contributed so much to our wonderful World Book Day - the costumes were fantastic with some very original ideas.”
