PEMBROKE Town Council is calling for local people power to help plant more than 400 trees in a local play park this Saturday.
The town council, in partnership with Pembroke Community Youth and Pembrokeshire County Council, intends to install a new play area in Pembroke North on the site of the previous park.
Pembroke ~Town Council stated: “It is a matter of considerable local concern that the park on The Green has deteriorated to such an extent that there is little left for the children to play on. We are going to address this.
“The reinstatement of the park will be in stages, the first being the replanting of trees surrounding the back of the play area. We have applied for a grant through the Woodland Trust and have managed to secure 420 small sapling trees which will be planted on Saturday, March 17, starting at 10am.
“Anyone wishing to join us to help us plant these trees are more than welcome (please bring your own spade) and we will be offering refreshments to all helpers.
“The next stage will be the installation of two goal posts and, once the funding is in place, work will begin on the play park itself. This will include the installation of picnic benches and landscaping. We hope to achieve this by the summer.”
Should you wish to be involved with any of the above, or have any queries, please contact the town council on 01646 683092.
