AT a recent meeting of the Pembroke Rotary Club, held at The Court Hotel Lamphey, Rotarians were given a highly interesting and informative talk by Edward Perkins.
Initially he gave a brief insight into his long and varied career as an auctioneer in West Wales and also gave a potted history of some of the local characters and historic properties in South Pembrokeshire.
His main subject was to relive his breath-taking experience of cruising down the Danube from Prague to Budapest. This was a talk with a difference as Edward incorporated detailed European history of most of the venues he attended.
Starting at Prague he gave the Rotarians details of his historic town with unspoilt beautiful buildings.
Other towns of great note were Vienna with its long history of famous musicians and coupled with visits to places such as Linz, Bratislava, Dun Stein and Passau.
A town of immense nostalgia to Edward was Nuremberg, where he lived for a period in his younger days, learning to speak German. In addition to German, Edward is fluent in many languages. His cruise ended in Budapest, again a town of long European history.
All Rotarians were extremely impressed by Edward's presentation and his wealth of knowledge on European history.
Edward was thanked on behalf of the Rotary Club of Pembroke by Jonathan Davies. The evening was organised by Harold James.
