LOCAL politicians have held urgent talks with Arriva Trains Wales to discuss improvements to Pembroke Dock railway station.
Regional AM Eluned Morgan, County Councillor Josh Beynon and Town Councillor Dilys Burrell met with Ben Davies of Arriva Trains Wales at the station.
Complaints have been made by local commuters about the upkeep of the station and have called on Arriva Trains Wales to support calls to Network Rail to invest in the station, which is one of the transport gateways to Pembrokeshire and Wales.
In a productive meeting, ideas were discussed that could improve the passenger experience at Pembroke Dock Station including new seating, increased shelter for those waiting for trains and examining options to make the area more attractive.
Eluned Morgan AM said: “The Welsh Government has already invested in the transport hub here in Pembroke Dock. But from our visit it is clear that more can be done to make the station more attractive to rail and ferry passengers. The railway station is a community asset, so I was pleased to hear that despite Arriva Trains choosing not to bid again for the rail franchise, they are committed to working with us and the community to make the necessary improvements, we and the community feel are important.”
Cllr Josh Beynon said: “It was great to meet Arriva down at Pembroke Dock Station to discuss how we can improve and invest in the local train station. I’m looking forward to having a constructive relationship with them going forward in order to improve the train station for residents and visitors alike.”
